The Rising Make Up Blogger

Within two months of vlogging with over 191 subscribers. 253 followers on twitter. 315 followers on instagram and surely a lot more coming! This young lady right here is definitely someone to look out for.
It’s not only a hobby but more like passion. She started as a make up enthusiast by watching local and internationally renowned Youtubers. She then slowly hoarded her own fair share of make up products and practiced her way into becoming a vlogger herself. Everyone starts at the bottom and for her this is only the beginning… The start of something new.

This will be her very first feature as a beauty and fashion blogger and I feel more than favored to be the one writing this for her.

Name: Karla Marie Abigail Morgado Misa
Nickname: Karla
Age: 21 years old
Birthdate: March 12, 1991

I’m pretty sure everyone wants to know how it all kicked off.  It all started in the year 2012 somewhere between the first months of the year. She got enticed watching YouTube videos of TheCountessAnna, who is known to be Filipina comic and loud mouth on Youtube. “I really enjoyed watching her videos, her antics and funny statements. Incidentally, she was also a fan of makeup and eventually she posted videos on how she does hers and what products she was using.
At that time, I wasn't really that interested in makeup.”
She only uses makeup when the situation calls for it. On a daily basis a press powder and a tinted lip balm or lipstick is good to go. But after watching all of Anna Tan’s videos it made her interested of purchasing new makeup products. She made use of these products and practiced. “It also made me realize that I am already past my teen years, therefore it must be the apt time for me to learn about these things.”

And how it went from small time to big time? Here’s the deal for her… “With the building interest and passion I have found within myself for makeup, I decided to dig deeper into the context and eventually, I found myself watching makeup videos from different Makeup Youtubers, may it be local or international. They all have been my inspiration to learn and practice more with regard to makeup, day by day. I have been really passionate with this craft to the extent that there was never a day that I don't watch even a single video of these Makeup Youtubers. It has been a part of my routine, and I can say, I became an addict.”

It has been a year since she started her passion for makeup. Throughout the past year she  has developed skills and learned a lot of tips and tricks in makeup, from the basics to the in depth makeup application, from different gurus in different opinions and ways. “For a year, I have also been able to haul a LOT of makeup and skincare products added to my collection, in which in my opinion I would never get enough of.”

It also took her a year to finally commit herself into Makeup Vlogging and Blogging. She has been solely a viewer for one whole year but look at her now… She’s already one of them. I was one of the many people who tried to convince her into entering this craft and I’m glad she finally gave in. “It actually takes a lot of guts, determination and passion to make this kind of decision, but I finally gave into it. After all of the convincing that my friends have been giving me to persuade me into this craft, and all my insecurities that encourage me to back out, I finally gave in.”

What motivated her into this?
“My inspiration with this decision I made, is no other than, myself. You must believe in yourself for others to believe in you.”  True enough. It does take a lot of guts to record yourself blabbing about stuff and knowing that the whole world can see it after uploading it on Youtube. Bashers and haters will be part of your life once the community notices you. You’ll just have to get used to it and look at the brighter side. You wouldn’t be talked about if you weren’t something, right? If you have the passion and confidence to do something you have always wanted, do it, and stop thinking about what others may think or say about you, nevertheless, do what you love and love what you do. The true power comes from within, from yourself. Quote me on that!”

How was the excursion to where she is at this point of time?
“Overall, it was a tough long ride for me, but it was all worth it.  I am more than proud of myself for being able to survive a year of self-taught makeup application, and I know the learning never ends. I now find myself doing what I really wanted to do, what I am good at and what makes me happy and content. I still have a long way to go as I have just started, but I will give my utmost effort to provide makeup related videos to my viewers in the best way I can. This is a big leap for me in reaching my dream to be a Professional Makeup Artist.”

What were the preparations you've made for this?
Becoming a Makeup Enthusiast on YouTube requires only two (2) things: First,  a video camera, Second, CONFIDENCE. Ever since I came into the point of thinking, "What if I make my own Beauty Channel?", I have always had resources for filming. However, forgive the OC side of me, if I would do the latter I want Full HD Videography. I know I sound so demanding, but I want the best for my channel and for my viewers as well. So it took me quite sometime to actually own a Full HD camera, until recently, my family and I decided to sell our 3 year old Nikon D3000 for an upgrade. I was so enthusiastic to have the camera that need, and so I was able to sell it! We then purchased a new DSLR camera, which what I am using, our Canon 650D. Since then, I said to my self seriously that I am finally going to make my very own Beauty Channel on Youtube. However, for a week, I had problems with the "second" requirement. I tend to lose confidence sometimes due to my insecurities, and I tend to think "Nakakahiya." I was socially anxious and indifferent. But with the help of my friends: Celine and Maying. Who have been convincing me nonstop! Especially Celine who claims to be my number one fan, teehee. I eventually gave in, and I tell you, it was tough at first since I had to get used to Sony Vegas Pro 11 which made me dizzy most of the time, but now I'm quite used to it already.

Who or what were your inspiration(s)?
There were a lot of factors that inspired me to become a Makeup Blogger/Vlogger. First and foremost, my friends. They have really been supportive ever since they knew my interest and passion and this craft, and they never stop convincing me to start my Beauty Blog and Channel. Second, would be the Makeup Youtubers Local and International that not only inspired, but taught me well I can say. As I have watched every single video from these beauty vloggers, I kept on learning and learning until I became what I am now. Everything that I know now, I got from them, and I am truly grateful for all their tip and tricks, as well as their advises when it come to beauty. Most of all, my number one inspiration would be myself. As a self-taught makeup enthusiast, I have been through thick and thin, reading blogs, watching videos, and what have you. I am inspired by myself to be the best that I can be in aspects that I am able to express my talents and abilities well, aspects that make me know more about myself, aspects that feature the best in me. I am more than thankful to all of these people that inspired me to finally forego with my aspirations.

Who are your favorite make up bloggers local/international?
A lot to mention! Locally, Miss Say Tioco Artillero, MissCoryPotts a.k.a. Sabrina, Miss Noe Mae Villagonzalo, Miss Ana Victorino, etc. And for the International beauty vloggers,  ItsJudyTime and Michelle Phan are my favorites.

But then again, we always have a most favorite out of all our favorites right? I am actually a self-confessed fan of Miss Say Tioco Artillero :) She has always been my main inspiration, and I have actually watched every single video in her channel, no kidding! I just idolize her a lot for her passion, patience and determination, and of how far she has come now. She is actually the most viewed Filipina beauty vlogger in the Philippines right now, with 25,000+ subscribers! She is very dedicated to her craft and someday, I would really want to reach what she has right now. I am really proud of her for what she has become, and what she has achieved in just 3 years of vlogging/blogging.

Any tips for those who are also aspiring to become a make up blogger/enthusiast?
My major tip is to believe in yourself. Like what I mentioned earlier, "You must believe in yourself for others to believe in you". Identify your skills and capabilities and hone them by practicing and learningI believe learning is a continuous process. One can never learn enough.

Explore and utilize your resources. Watch makeup videos on YouTube whenever your free, read books and makeup manuals. Know the latest buzz regarding great makeup products and new ways to use makeup. I tell you, in the long run, all the information you were able to gather from all your resources, you will be able to apply not only to yourself, but for your future clients as a Professional Makeup Artist ;)

Try out new makeup products and practice application. Nothing beats putting information into action. Save up to be able to purchase makeup products to sustain your hunger for makeup ;) Use these products, and don't be afraid to experiment.

Get formal makeup education if you can (e.g. workshops, makeup schools). Though I was not really able to experience such, I would really want to in the future if given a chance. I really think it helps in honing makeup skills, not just by information but also application.

But among all these tips, number one would be to Believe In Yourself ;) "What you perceive, you will achieve."

What is make up for you?
Makeup for me, is an art. An art of  expressing the burning passion you have for makeup. Makeup makes every girl look beautiful on the outside, but we all know that what's important is what's inside. The important point that I would like to stress in this aspect, is for people to know that makeup is not mask that is worn to conceal and hide your true face, it is an art, using one's skills and capabilities to look good and enhance the beauty that God has given us.

What is your "to go" make up look?
Honestly, i don't put a lot of makeup on, on a regular day. I only put full makeup during events that I need to be extra gorgeous, such as weddings and debuts, as well as party night outs.

My go-to makeup look would be a powder foundation over my moisturizer which acts as a base. I'm not really into eye makeup when I just on-the-go, so I just wear cheek blush and my lippie of the day. Sometimes when I still have time, I highlight my eyelids, tearducts, bridge of the nose, cupid's bow and cheeks with the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk, also, a curl my lashes and add my favorite mascara from Maybelline: The Falsies.

I always go simple on a daily basis, and I actually don't mind not wearing makeup at all. But in any given situation that I still have adequate time to apply makeup, I just apply what I can and I'm good to go :)

What should a girl never forget to put on everyday?
Skin care. Taking good care of your skin is the most important thing to do above all. Nothing beats a flawless skin as a foundation to your makeup. It is vital and necessary that a person using makeup to invest on skincare. Let's put it this way, no matter how I love makeup, I can still say that they can be harming to our skin. Some makeup products, even expensive ones, still contain harmful chemicals such as paraben, that make damage our skin. It is very important to know what are the contents of the makeup products that you are using. Hence, prevention is the key. Skin care products are vitamins to our skin. They supplement, maintain, and improve our skin to look healthy inside and out. There is also a need to started using anti-ageing products as early as possible to prevent premature skin aging such as appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

What are the words you live by in line with make up?
"Makeup can only make you look pretty on the outside but it doesn't help if your ugly on the inside. Unless you eat the makeup"
— Audrey Hepburn
This is actually quite a funny quote from Audrey Hepburn, but I believe it's true. In the end, what's really important is what's seen inside, having the best of both worlds is the greatest achievement of a woman, to be beautiful inside and out :)

Aside from make up you're also into fashion? How would you link make up and fashion?
Yes I am into fashion, I really love dressing up and getting updated with the latest trends and new array of clothes to choose from, and definitely I am into shopping. Makeup and fashion basically carries the same purpose — to look good. Putting them together, I believe, is actually a brilliant idea. I am actually planning to incorporate these two worlds in my blog posts — outfit posts with makeup tutorials!  Watch out for my blog posts regarding this concept. I'm still working on it,  so for the mean time, follow my social networks to be updated on my blog posts! ;)

What is your "style?"
The number one thing that I go for fashion is — comfort. When I go out, I feel at my greatest comfort whenever I'm wearing good looking clothes of my taste, that actually makes my day! Otherwise, when I'm on the rush and I end up wearing something I don't like and I'm not comfortable with, I seriously end up having a bad day.See how fashion influences my mood?

When it comes to style, I don't really have a specific style, I believe I am versatile, and I am more than willing to try out different styles. However, most of my outfits are composed of classic clothing, casual elegance, plains and prints, and versatility. Go ahead and check out my blog to know more about the style I wear.

What is/are fashion/make up NO NOs for you?
The ultimate makeup no-no for me would be to sleep overnight with makeup on. Skin care is very important especially if you're using makeup on a daily basis. Sleeping with makeup on may damage your skin and may cause premature aging. Imagine all those chemicals seeping into your skin. Never ever forget to do skin care before sleeping, no matter what.

A fashion no-no for me would be to mix overwhelming prints. I respect that some fashion bloggers who carry this style, but I'm personally not into mixing overwhelming prints in an outfit.

You're also a traveler. what are the best places you've been to? Why?
Aside from makeup, traveling is also my passion, I would really want to experience traveling all over the world! I have been to quite a lot of places already (thanks to my adventurous family) aside from that, my father's job entails being assigned to different cities all over Mindanao, therefore, whenever he gets assigned to a new area, we see to it that as a family, we are able to visit our father's area and be familiar with the surroundings of his job.

I'll try my best to mention everything all the places I have been to, and I think it would be better if I just list it down.
Luzon - Laoag, Vigan, Ilocos, Pagudpud, Baguio, Tuguegarao, Pampanga, Clark, Metro Manila

Visayas - Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Ormoc, Iloilo, Caticlan (Boracay), Dumaguete, Negros Oriental

Mindanao - Davao, Tagum, Mati, Nabunturan, Bislig, Mangagoy, San Francisco, Barobo, Surigao del
Sur (Lianga, Hinatuan), Surigao, Butuan, Nasipit, Medina, Gingoog, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Dipolog,
Ozamis, Digos, General Santos, Marbel, Surallah, Tandag, Malaybalay, Valencia, Buda

Asia - Hongkong, Macau, Singapore and Soon! Bangkok :)
I could say that among these areas, the best places I have been to would be all the International travels I had, especially Hongkong, and for the local cities, it would definitely be Boracay, Ilocos Area, Baguio, Mati, Surallah and Malaybalay.

These are all the places I have been to as far as I can still remember. I did not mention the places that I was just able to glance while in the car, so I can say, that all these places I have really set foot on :)

Any future travels?
I am blessed to anticipate two international getaways this year! Next month, I'll be visiting Bangkok, Thailand, the place for culture, food haven and amongst all - SHOPPING! I sure have to save a lot for this trip, its my first time there and I'm definitely blogging about my travels. This coming May, I am also booked to Hong Kong, my favorite country. I have been there back in 2010, and coming back really makes me excited. Watch out for my blogs and vlogs regarding my travels soon!

Make up tip for travelers?
During travels, I can say that less is more. Just pack and bring the makeup products that you will be needing. Anticipate the makeup looks that you will be sporting during your travel dates to save time and space in your luggage. Makeup necessities during travels in my opinion would be a foundation or BB cream (long lasting products is advisable), setting powder (this you will be using for touch ups as well), eyeshadow quad (neutrals are advisable since it can be paired with any outfit), eyelash curler and mascara (to open your eyes more that would look great in photos), gel eyeliner (long lasting and smudge proof) cream blush or cheek stain (for a longer lasting coverage, less touch ups since you are on the go), and a matte lipstick or lipstain (matte lip products last longer for less touch ups).

Above all, skincare products are the must haves during travels. No matter how tired you are after the long day spent, never skip removing your makeup, cleansing, toning and moisturizing.

"Thank you so much for this opportunity Ms. Anne Marielle Gantuangco. It is my greatest pleasure to be featured in your blog. More power to your blog. I will always be one of your viewers, or shall I say, fans!"

For those who may seem to recognize her you might have seen her in the No Other Woman Spoof  as Cristine Payless which aired in TV Patrol World. Hahaha. I just had to. So that concludes it... your rising make up blogger! Don't forget to subscribe to her channel! :)

Today also happens to be her birthday! So, its a perfect timing! I would like to take this chance to express how grateful I am for having this beautiful lady as one of my closest friends! Though we've only met in college its like we've known each other for the longest time. Thank you Puppy Samurai for always being there and for understanding my weirdness... For being oh so supportive to my wildest and enormous dreams... You are simply one of the best and I wish you all the happiness that you deserve. Good luck and God bless in your chosen career. I will always be here for you! Happy birthday!

I'm glad we came ♩♪♫♬

We have always wanted a part 2 for our MASG (Mga Anak Sa Ginoo) outing and this time around the plans pushed through even if the attendance was, may I say... a little bit unsatisfactory. Everything was put on hold before because of the board exams. When the results came out it was a sign that we should really get things going... and so we planned.

It's really hard to plan things especially of the people involved are not very cooperative. Good thing that the planning committee was tight. We laid out our plans and just waited for confirmations. We were expecting more or less 20 people but it all went down to 9. Quite a small number for a get together but it was fun all the same. We enjoyed each other's company and the food... As Laurince would sing... I'm glad we came.

The night before the day of departure some of them already arrived. We ended up getting groceries at GMall but we had a little stop at Tealoca because Jhan had to meet with Ilona. I would like to sing again... I'm glad we came. Haha! She bought J.Co doughnuts. I missed it! And I crave as I type... *drools*

After all the errands we spent the entire night preparing for the early morning cooking that would follow. We retired quite early for the next day at my crib. Haha :D

We woke up around 4 am because someone didn't quite get the 5 am deal *coughs* Lau2x. The alarm goes... Whistle baby, whistle baby... So we had to go back to sleep for another hour because I believe we all needed it. Then, the master chef MASG edition begins. Our master chef is Jhan. He cooked spaghetti and bihon while I cooked breakfast for everyone. There were still a lot of things to do. We still have to buy lechon and coal. Tords was too early and ended up wearing these to the beach:

What a brilliant kid! Haha. I don't know what he was thinking about... Too busy to notice the slippers. On the other hand, Bem2x, Epoi, and Ken got left behind because they simply did not wake up on time. So, there were only 6 of us at first.

We arrived at Isla Reta just in time for lunch. While waiting for the rice we set up our tent and had the compulsory jump shot. I'll give full credits to Tords for all the jump shots. I must admit. He's good.

The night was still young and we needed to make the most out of it...

We had fun mixing the different colors/flavors of Tanduay Ice. The pink one is my favorite :D

We were forced to transfer our location because it seems like we were the only ones who were nocturnal on the island. We regret nothing because somewhere between our high pitched laughs and mind boggling pinoy henyo games we saw two dugongs near by. I was holding the camera and I just can't capture it right and the flash could't reach 'em. So we just stared until they went away. We were all dazed and it took us sometime to get over it. So I'll give you a photo just for you to picture it out... It looks like a mermaid! Leysa first thought it was a shark! Haha.

A lot of eating happened. Some volleyball. Card games. Pinoy Henyo. Drinking...and the rest was history. We all felt sleepy and so the night ended right. I had to wake up to see the beautiful sunrise and I dragged Ley and Tords into it. You all would agree that it's a beauty...

When everyone was up we ended up cooking breakfast except for some... Spot Bruno Mars embodying the lazy song! Hahahaha XD
The boys ended up playing volleyball again for the "rematch." We went for a quick stroll and poor Bem2x got left behind preparing for lunch that explains his absence in some photos.

We took a quick dip while it was drizzling and when the sun wasn't shinning so brightly. Though there were only a few of us it was super fun. Looking forward for the next escapade with these guys. We really don't have to try because it will always be a good time ;)

And we go singing once more... I'm glad we came ♩♪♫♬
